Introdução: Muitas pessoas sem moradia vivem nas cidades brasileiras, configurando um problema coletivo que tem desafiado o poder estatal a executar ações para reverter esse quadro de extrema exclusão. Objetivo: Conhecer e discutir o cotidiano de pessoas em situação de rua em Maceió, AL. Métodos: É apresentada parte dos resultados de uma pesquisa que teve como principal objetivo traçar um perfil da população em situação de rua que frequenta um albergue da rede pública de assistência social da cidade de Maceió, AL, identificando possíveis demandas de intervenção para a Terapia Ocupacional. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, realizado com 37 indivíduos usuários de um albergue, cujos dados foram analisados através da análise de conteúdo. Resultados e discussão: Discutiram-se os principais processos de adentrar e viver nas ruas (rupturas, processos de socialização, desejos), reconhecendo a complexidade social do fenômeno em questão, a partir da heterogeneidade do grupo pesquisado, assim como as
possíveis intervenções da Terapia Ocupacional frente às demandas apresentadas.
